Georg Gedl
Georg Gedl (born 16 April 1945) is an industrial designer, automotive designer, illustrator, and lecturer whose work has played a significant role in the development of automotive design in Slovenia and beyond. Born in Kikinda, Serbia, he developed a passion for automobiles at an early age, spending much of his childhood drawing cars and creating original vehicle concepts.
After completing his education, he worked in the construction industry while continuing to develop his automotive sketches. His career changed dramatically in 1969 when the Swiss magazine Automobil Revue published several of his drawings. The publication led to an invitation to join Audi in Ingolstadt, Germany, where he became an automotive designer and contributed to the development of the Audi 80. In 1971, he moved to BMW, gaining valuable experience alongside renowned designers including Paul Bracq and Giorgetto Giugiaro.
In 1975, Gedl joined IMV (Industrija motornih vozil) in Novo Mesto, Slovenia, where he designed caravans and helped shape the future of the Adria brand. From 1983 to 1987, he worked at TAM Maribor, contributing to the design of a touring coach that was exhibited at the Frankfurt International Motor Show and the Ljubljana Biennial of Industrial Design. Since becoming an independent industrial designer in 1987, he has completed numerous projects in automotive, railway, and industrial design.
A major part of his career has been his long-standing collaboration with Adria Mobil, where he designed caravans, motorhomes, vehicle interiors, exterior styling, and graphics. Among his most notable projects is the Vision integrated motorhome, first unveiled at the Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf in 2005.
Alongside his design career, Gedl lectured in presentation techniques (rendering) at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana between 1985 and 1995 and contributed to the Slovenian automotive magazine Avto magazin for many years. He continues to draw classic automobiles and maintains a collection of more than one thousand model cars.
Combining technical expertise with artistic creativity, Georg Gedl has established a distinguished career spanning automotive illustration, industrial design, and vehicle development. His work remains an important contribution to the history of automotive and industrial design in Slovenia.
