Michael Turner

Michael Turner (born in 1934) is a British illustrator and painter specialising in automotive and aviation subjects. He is widely regarded as one of the most respected artists in the fields of motoring and aviation art, with works appreciated by collectors, motorsport enthusiasts, aviation historians and international clients alike.

Born in Harrow, Middlesex, England, Turner developed an early fascination with aircraft during the Second World War and later became equally passionate about motor racing. After studying art and completing military service, he began working as a freelance illustrator in 1957. During the 1960s, he founded Studio 88, through which he published his aviation and motorsport artwork.

Turner created official posters for many prestigious racing events, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the 12 Hours of Sebring and numerous Formula One races. He also worked closely with the McLaren team, contributing to the early visual identity of its Formula One cars.

A founding member of the Guild of Aviation Artists and an honorary member of the Guild of Motoring Artists, Turner has seen his artwork published in numerous books, magazines and specialist publications. His illustrations have also appeared on Airfix model kit packaging. Through his work, he has made a significant contribution to the development and recognition of both automotive and aviation art.
